If the sight at St. Thomas’ Cyril E. King airport seems somewhat unusual on Friday it will be because a full-scale emergency drill is being conducted there, according to the Virgin Islands Port Authority.
The exercise is tailored to test first responders and stakeholders who play a key role in disaster response and recovery, in line with the airport’s emergency plan, and will cover emergency response procedures in the event of a major commercial carrier accident.
The drill is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Feb. 27 and will conclude by noon, Port Authority Executive Director Carlton Dowe said.
Port Authority officials say the exercise will take place on the eastern end of the airport and will not affect normal operations.
