A guest staying at the King Christian Hotel in Christiansted, St. Croix, reported waking up to an intruder in his hotel room during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Feb. 25, according to information released by VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson.
At 2:56 a.m., officers were dispatched to a call of a burglary at the historic hotel. When officers arrived, they were met by the hotel’s security guard, who informed them she had made contact with the guest at 2:49 a.m., when he notified her that someone had been inside his room.
In his statement to police, the victim said he had fallen asleep at around 11 p.m. on the evening of Feb. 24 and was awoken by a presence in his room at 2:46 a.m. on Feb. 25. He saw the silhouette of an unknown male standing in the northeast corner of his hotel room, approximately 5′ 11″ in height. The victim demanded that the suspect leave the room, at which time the suspect took off and jumped over the northern porch, facing a wall.
The victim told police none of his possessions were stolen and that he was unhurt in the incident. However, he was unable to provide a description of the intruder.
Officers could not locate the suspect after a search of downtown Christiansted.
The incident is under investigation by the Forensic Unit and the Investigation Bureau.
