Mutual Homes Apartment Burglarized, $800 Worth Of Items Stolen

News / Virgin Islands / February 28, 2015

A woman living in the Mutual Homes Apartments located in Estate Grove Place on St. Croix has told police her home was burglarized and some of her personal items, totaling $800, were stolen, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson has announced.

According to Jackson, at about 7:35 a.m. on Thursday, officers responded to a call of a possible burglary at the Mutual Homes housing community. The victim told police that on Wednesday evening, she had secured the door of her apartment at 10:30 p.m. and had gone to bed.

After waking up the following morning, she realized several personal items were missing from the apartment, including a mobile phone, wallet, and a purse containing personal documents — all with a total value of about $800. The victim stated that other family members were also asleep in the apartment at the time of the burglary and were unharmed. She told police this was not the first time someone had broken into the apartment while the family was asleep.

The case is being investigated by detectives in the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 778-2211, 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
