The USVI Special Olympics games will kick off with the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run on Sat., March 21 on St. Croix and Sat., March 28 on St. Thomas.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is believed to be the largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness event for Special Olympics. Since its inception in 1981, it has grown worldwide with more than 97,000 volunteers across 46 countries, and has brought in more than $461 million for the Special Olympics movement.
The St. Croix event will begin at 7 a.m. from the Rainbow Building in Hannah’s Rest and participating officers will make their way to Renaissance Park, located in Estate Annaberg (adjacent to the Diageo Distillery) where the games will open at 9 a.m.
On St. Thomas, the event will start from the U.S Coast Guard Station at the Senate Building at 9 a.m. and make its way to the Games site at the Charlotte Amalie High School, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The Special Olympics was established in 1968 and is a global organization that serves more than four million athletes with intellectual disabilities through the help of hundreds of thousands of volunteers and coaches each year.
