The first meeting of the committee on Homeland Security, Public Safety and Justice will convene on Tues., March 23 at the Frits E. Lawaetz Legislative Conference Room on St. Croix, beginning at 10 a.m.
Chaired by Sen. Novelle E. Francis, Jr., the committee has oversight for all territory agencies involved in the performance of law enforcement, public safety and first responder duties. The committee is expected to hear testimony from the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections, Virgin Islands Police Department, Virgin Islands Emergency Medical Services, Virgin Islands Law Enforcement Planning Commission, Virgin Islands Department of Justice, and Virgin Islands Fire Services.
“It is imperative that we are provided with the most current status of the state of public safety and first responders,” the freshman senator said of the upcoming meeting. “I look forward to hearing about plans for improvement, as well as realistic solutions to the issues each department is currently facing.”
The public is invited to attend the meeting or view it live on LEGIT TV Ch. 6.
