WAPA Experiencing St. Thomas/St. John District-Wide Power Outage

Breaking News / News / Virgin Islands / April 5, 2015

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) experienced a fault in an auxiliary transformer at the Randolph Harley power plant at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, which compromised the generation protection scheme, resulting in a district-wide outage in the St. Thomas/St. John district, WAPA announced through a recently issued press release.

The semi-autonomous entity said it has begun the restoration process, with several feeders now receiving service, and revealed that the plant has implemented all protective measures to return the utility from no service to restoration mode.

WAPA added that it’s “working diligently to restore full service as safely and efficiently as possible,” and that “plant operators are in the process of bringing units online in a manner that will stabilize the utility’s generating capacity.”

Feeders still experiencing service interruption include 6A, 7C, 7D, 9E and a portion of 7A.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
