Man Knocked Unconscious, Robbed At Frederiksted Vegetable Market

News / Virgin Islands / April 7, 2015

ST. CROIX — A man who was struck at the back of his head while playing a heated game of dominoes at the Frederiksted vegetable market, reported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment where he revealed to police the details behind the incident, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson has announced.

According to Jackson, the 911 emergency call  center received notification of an assault victim at JFL’s emergency room at around 10:25 a.m. on Monday morning.

The victim told police officers that he was at the market on the evening of April 3at roughly 10:00 p.m., when he was struck from behind by an unknown assailant. The victim further stated that he had no idea what he was hit with, but that he fell unconscious striking the ground.

Once he regained consciousness, the victim discovered that his mobile phone, phone charger and $500.00 in cash had been stolen, however he did not immediately report the incident, nor did he seek medical attention at the time. But, with the swelling to the back of his head and his left eye in addition to feeling extreme pain in his right hip and lower leg, the victim decided to seek medical attention.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident.
