ST. CROIX – A 34-year-old man pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Estate Golden Rock on Monday, April 13 to one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Juan Carlos Seguinot-Martinez of Puerto Rico faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 19, 2015.
As part of his plea agreement, Seguinot-Martinez admitted that in December 2014 while he was in St. Croix, he purchased at least 500 grams of cocaine and mailed it to Buffalo, New York, said U.S. Attorney Ronald Sharpe.
United States Customs and Border Protection agents intercepted the package, Sharpe said. Seguinot-Martinez lives in Puerto Rico.
The case was investigated by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alphonso Andrews and Rami S. Badawy.
