ST. THOMAS — Scotiabank donated $3,000 to St. Thomas youth group Young Women Christian Association of the Virgin Islands, Inc. (YWCA), marking the bank’s ongoing effort, it says, to incessantly give back to the territory.
In December of last year, the bank donated $1,500 to the St. Thomas-St. John District Family Resource Center, a group that is committed to providing the necessary resources to help end family violence in the territory.
YWCA is dedicated to providing avenues through which girls and women could engage in leadership development activities. The group’s Y-TEENS VI program is specifically geared towards girls ages 10-17, and was formed to promote positive life choices, life skills development and ensure personal development.
“We are honored by this donation by Scotiabank, and we thank you for your philanthropic work in the Virgin Islands,” said Donnalie Edwards-Cabey, President YWCA USVI, Inc.
Christine N. Lee, Scotiabank’s marketing officer, said the bank “is pleased to be able to give back to the Virgin Islands community, especially to organizations such as the YWCA that help to promote the personal development of girls and young women.”
Accepting the donation for YWCA were Edwards-Cabey, Joss Springette Esq. PRO, and Lena Steele Williams, member & co-facilitator.
