Suspects With Guns Tried But Failed To Rob Resident At Dumpsite

News / Virgin Islands / May 1, 2015

ST. CROIX – A man throwing out his garbage at the Mon Bijou dumpsite Wednesday about midnight was approached by two masked men with a gun in a robbery attempt, according to police.

The man told police at 12:15 a.m. April 29 that the men were dressed entirely in black clothing – one short and one tall – and emerged from the bushes at the southwestern boundary of the dumpsite as he was placing his trash in the dumpster.

The taller of the two men pointed a firearm at the victim and said: “Pass it up.” To which the man said: “What?”

The taller man fired a shot at the victim, but missed, police said. After which, the man who complained to police fired a single shot from his licensed firearm at the two suspects, but missed.

The masked men ran off the grounds of the dumpsite in a southerly direction towards the Alfredo Andrews Elementary School, the man told police.

The man was unharmed in the incident. Police continue to investigate the matter.
