Police Find 212 Marijuana Plants Growing Inside House In St. Thomas

News / Virgin Islands / May 10, 2015

ST. THOMAS – A 31-year-old Estate Bonne Esperance man was arrested and charged with dealing marijuana on Friday May 8 at 1:30 p.m., according to police.

Police said Ariel Benyehudah was placed under arrest near Estate Fortuna after officers discovered 212 marijuana plants in his residence, the VIPD said. Benyehudah is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, police said.

Bail for Benyehudah was set at $10,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

Officers in the Investigation Bureau and Special Operations Unit reponded to a report of gunfire in Estate Bonne Esperance, police said. Officers observed a damaged front door and what appeared to be blood on the floor upon first entering the residence.

Once inside the residence, officers discovered that the marijuana plants were being grown in two air-conditioned rooms with artificial lighting.
