Personnel Announces Entrance Exams For Correction And Police Officers

ST. THOMAS — The Division of Personnel has announced testing dates for the ranks of Correction Officer and Police Officer territory-wide, in accordance with VI Code Title 3, Chapter 25 , Section 523.

The examination dates are July 13-17.

In order to qualify for the test, applicants must have completed at least twelfth grade level education or a certificate with equivalent value. Candidates must possess or be able to qualify for a driver’s license, and must also be US citizens, at least 20 years of age and below age 46.

Candidates must successfully pass the civil service written examination, physical agility test, psychological exam, oral board interview, as well as a background check.

All interested candidates must sign-up and submit a complete application package at the respective district office by Monday, June 1,2015. Candidates who submitted an application prior are required to notify the Division of Personnel of any changes in mailing addresses to ensure receipt of confirmed examination notice.

Preparation guide for the police officer written examination will be distributed May 18- June 1, 2015.

Personnel’s recruitment policy has been amended to include new criteria which allows candidates to be waived from sitting the written examination; however, candidates are required to meet all other established criteria for qualification.

The new criteria are as follows:

  • All degrees (associate, bachelor and master level) from accredited institutions will now be accepted in addition to the degrees currently accepted which include police science, criminal justice, (certain)- social science, criminology, forensic science, accounting, public and business administration; however, all accredited non-related degrees will require proof of completion via official transcript.
  • All military veterans who served full military service with an honorable or general discharge listed on their DD214.
