Roy Henry, Shot To Death Outside Nightclub On Sunday, Was No Stranger To The Law

ST. CROIX — Roy Henry, widely known as “Uncle Roy”, was shot to death in the parking lot of The Lyme nightclub in Princesse across the Dept. of Education at 3:30 this morning, but the victim was no stranger to the law, having been arrested multiple times in the past on various charges.

Henry, who was serving time at the Golden Grove Adult and Correctional Facility in 2011, was rearrested the same year while in prison on separate charges, including 20 counts of possession of ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, failure to report a firearm brought into the territory and three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

The charges stemmed from a July, 2010 case after police raided an abandoned house in Estate Little Princess, confiscating two sizable rocks of crack cocaine, 11 guns, including an AK-47 and shotgun. Police also found five pounds of marijuana, drug-packaging material and a bulletproof vest, among other illegal items.

The raid was in connection with the death of Luis Roldan on July 3, 2010, who was found charred to death in a vehicle that was set ablaze in the now-abandoned Ralph de Chabert housing community. According to the VIPD, forensic tests performed on the evidence collected at the abandoned home in Estate Little Princess confirmed that Henry had possession of the weapons.

But the aforementioned charges were not the only ones levied against Henry. On July 15, 2012, both U.S. and U.S. Virgin Islands governments fought Henry in court in connection with an incident involving the death of Jamali Allick in the vicinity of the Frederiksted Post Office.

On February 2, 2011, Sgt. Herbert responded to a radio report of shots being discharged in the vicinity of the Frederiksted Post Office. The dispatcher also stated that there was a “man down” at the location. Shortly thereafter, Sergeant Herbert arrived at the scene and observed a deceased male lying on the ground who had sustained several gunshots.

The victim was identified by his father as Jamali Allick.

Several days later, the Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was homicide.  At the crime scene, forensic officers discovered live .45 caliber rounds and several spent.223 and 7.62 × 39 caliber cartridges. Sgt. Herbert knew from his experience as a law enforcement officer that 7.62 × 3.9 and .223 caliber rounds are used in AK-47s, AR-15s and other semi-automatic rifles.

While at the crime scene on the night of the shooting, an individual approached Sgt. Herbert and informed him that “DMX” and “Uncle Roy” committed the crime and “came by in a jeep.” The individual further stated that he did not wish to get involved. Other individuals at the crime scene stated that they started running because they saw an individual dressed in brown or black military clothing, wearing what appeared to be a bullet proof vest, and holding a large weapon in his hand.

At the crime scene on Sunday morning, police and detectives refused to release details of the incident to a Consortium reporter, stating that they were not allowed to talk to the media. But sources who were at the club last night at an all black, annual event, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak, made known what occurred.

According to these sources, people were dressed elegantly in suits and dresses, and the party, for the most part, was peaceful and well attended. However, at about 3:30 a.m., while the all black affair was ongoing, gunshots rang out outside the nightclub situated in the old Nissan dealership building, causing a flock of partygoers, who were in the parking lot when the homicide occurred, to rush inside. A security guard then made his way outside to investigate the matter, and after realizing what had happened, returned to the building and temporarily locked the door in an effort to protect those who were inside.

On the scene this morning, detectives and police officers were in the cordoned off area, where a sole, bullet-riddled gold Honda Civic was located, with what appeared to be Henry’s blood on the floor near the vehicle.
