ST. THOMAS – The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network (viNGN) announced via press release on Tuesday that businesses and residents can now take advantage of the territory’s fastest internet speeds through its services, which continues to expand throughout the islands.
According to the government-owned firm, service is now available in Frydenhoj, Red Hook, and Smith Bay on St Thomas, and Christiansted and Gallows Bay on St. Croix, along with Cruz Bay on St. John. Interested parties should simply contact their current internet service providers (ISP’s) for more details on packages.
“Our mission to provide world-class, open access, high-speed, 100% fiber optic broadband services to the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, and the world via local, regional, and international partnerships is only the beginning of a new life in the Virgin Islands,” said President and CEO, Dr. Tonjia Coverdale.
Internet service providers such as: High Tide Solutions, ADM Technologies, Alliance Data (SmartNet), Orbitel Access, Broadband VI, One Stop Wireless, Innovative Fibernet, Choice Communications, Surge Broadband Communications, and Fusion Solutions now have the capability to begin servicing residences and businesses with up to 1 Gbps of bandwidth (1000 Mbps) — a drastic increase from the 1-5 Mbps currently used by most businesses and residences in the territory.
“The advantage to our current speeds in comparison to previously offered speeds is the difference between light speed and snail speed. Click a YouTube video on viNGN’s network and you watch it instantly. Click a YouTube video on anything else and you’re buffering!” stated Dwight Walker, Customer Relationship Manager of viNGN.
The increased access to broadband and the implementation of applications enabled by viNGN’s high-speed network promotes efficiency and improves the overall quality of life for Virgin Islanders, transforming areas such as telecommunications, health, energy, education, government, and other applications, the release stated.
“The Next Generation of technology is here and we would like to invite everyone to celebrate a historic event soon to be announced,” said Dr. Coverdale.
