ST. CROIX — Married at First Sight — the A&E reality TV show that has quickly grown in popularity — is filming episodes for its third season here, VI Consortium can confirm.
The cast and crew planned on remaining clandestine, but after a cast member — the newly wedded wife — broke her tooth and needed emergency dental care, the group stopped at Tooth Works, a firm specializing in a variety of dental specialties.
It was there that The Consortium caught up with the crew, including a Married at First Sight producer, however an interview was turned down because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
The group came in earlier this week and are currently staying at the Buccaneer Hotel in Christiansted. They will remain on the island for a full week, visiting various locations, and will embark on a hiking trip. VI Consortium was also barred from capturing photos of the cast.
Married at First Sight is based on a hit Danish show, “Married” and features six people who agree to participate in an extreme experiment: Getting legally married to a complete stranger.
Four specialists — a sexologist, a spiritualist, a psychologist and a sociologist — use scientific matchmaking methods to determine each couple, who would not have met or had contact with each other until the wedding day. The series then documents the relationships, including honeymoons and other relatable events of married life. After several weeks, each couple must decide whether to remain together or go their individual ways.
The newly-wedded couple’s identities remain a secret, but while in conversation at Tooth Works, it was revealed that the couple had just gotten married on Sunday, and are enjoying a week of honeymooning on the big island.
