Police Investigating Separate Shooting Incidents In St. Thomas

News / Virgin Islands / July 19, 2015

ST. THOMAS — Police are investigating two separate shooting incidents here that left victims in need of medical attention, according to a press release VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson issued on Thursday.

According to Jackson, around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, the 911 emergency call center notified the Criminal Investigation Bureau of a shooting victim who had reported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC) for a gunshot wound treatment.

Upon arrival at the hospital, officers met with the 21-year-old victim who stated that on Thursday at about 2:00 a.m., while exiting Club Camouflage located in the Four Winds Plaza on the way to his vehicle, he heard someone call his name. As he turned around to walk to the individual, an unknown male fired multiple shots at him.

The victim sustained a gunshot to his lower back and leg.

In the second incident, a 47-year-old male was shot in the vicinity of the Embers Guesthouse located in Estate Contant.

Officers responded to a call from the SRMC of an individual who had been shot and was being treated for a graze to the lower back.

According to Jackson, the victim made known to police that about 12:30 a.m. while walking alongside the roadway near the Embers Guesthouse, he heard a vehicle driving towards him, but he simply continued walking and did not bother to look behind. Then, according to the victim, several shots rang out; prompting him to hurriedly escape into the bushes.

The victim added that he immediately called his girlfriend and a male acquaintance for assistance, and was dropped home. He said at about 5:00 a.m., he was taken to SRMC for treatment.

Detectives are currently investigating the matter.
