Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter has made known through press release that the passport acceptance facility has increased the timeframe for passport processing by two weeks (from 4-6 weeks to 6-8 weeks) due to the large volume of applicants.
In light of the increase, and to avoid paying extra for expedited service, Potter says persons seeking to apply for a passport should do so at the passport office early.
The increase in processing time has been implemented to facilitate peak season, which is around the summer months. The Regional Office, located in Miami, Florida, also reported large volumes of applications nationwide, including applications from the Virgin Islands.
The Passport Office apologizes for any inconvenience the delay may cause. For more information, call 340-774-4024 in St. Thomas and 340-773-6449 in St. Croix.
