ST. CROIX — The VIPD’s increased patrol and search warrants have seen the removal of 55 guns here and the 29th arrest since the beginning of 2015, as yet another arrest has been made for unauthorized possession of a firearm, Kevin Jackson, VIPD’s Public Information Officer announced on Wednesday.
On Tuesday at about 9:00 p.m., John Clay, 41, of Herman Hill was arrested and charged with possession of an unauthorized firearm.
According to Jackson, officers received a report of shots having been discharged in Estate Williams Delight at 8:51 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers came upon a vehicle fitting the description in the vicinity of Anna’s Hope. They then conducted a traffic stop of the motorist and discovered the unauthorized firearm and subsequently arrested Clay.
Unable to make bail of $25,000, Clay was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
Meanwhile, at around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, officers arrested and charged Clifton Donaldson, 36, of Estate Whim with third degree assault for strangling his girlfriend, destruction of property and grand larceny.
Donaldson was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
Correction: July 30, 2015
A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the VIPD had confiscated 29 weapons on St. Croix and 55 territory-wide since the beginning of the year. However, the numbers represent only St. Croix; not St. Thomas. The story has been updated to reflect the correct information.
