Rising Stars, Emphasis Band Bring WICO’s Summer Concert To A Close

ST. THOMAS — The West Indian Company, Ltd. will wrap up its summer community concerts with Jazz on the Dock from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18th on the West Indian Company dock, a press release WICO issued today has confirmed.

Jazz on the Dock will open with the Superior Court Rising Stars Youth Steel Orchestra performing from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Then St. John’s Emphasis Band, first-timers on the WICO concert stage, will perform from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

“We are extremely pleased that our community concerts have as strong a following as ever,” said WICO President and CEO Joseph Boschulte. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the greater community for its support and also to the music community for its willingness to work with us on a regular basis to promote talented, local musicians to an appreciative audience.”

Concert night will get off to a rousing and energetic start with perennial favorites, The Superior Court Rising Stars Youth Steel Orchestra. In addition to veteran members, the band will feature young people of various ages who have participated in its summer program. They will perform a variety of numbers in different styles from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Emphasis Band, the main act, is new the WICO concert stage. This versatile band, performers of soca, calypso, reggae, R&B, jazz, rock&roll and other genres, will take the stage from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Norwegian Getaway will be in port from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., while Carnival Liberty will arrive at 11:00 a.m. and depart at 6:00 p.m.

This month’s sponsors include the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, The University of the Virgin Islands, Avis, the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the U.S.V.I. Department of Tourism.

Jazz on the Dock is free and open to the public.
