ST. CROIX — The St. Joseph Catholic High School announced via press release yesterday its partnership with the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) with the introduction of the Networking Skills Training Academy slated to launch this fall at the high school.
The I.T. Academy will offer courses in coordination with the Cisco Networking Academy, a global educational program that helps students prepare for ICT (information and communication technology) careers, such as, network security and administration, technical support, and healthcare IT. The program also offers professional certifications and higher education opportunities in fields such as engineering, computer science, and other related fields.
The I.T. Academy at St. Joseph Catholic High School will initially offer courses which will be delivered through Cisco NetSpace, the Networking Academy’s cloud-based learning and collaboration environment. The online course materials were developed by Cisco, a nationally recognized information technology corporation, and a team of global educators. The courses will offer educational training in network simulation exercises, labs, and assessments. Certified instructors will provide hands-on support in specially equipped labs to facilitate learning and track student progress.
St. Joseph Catholic High School says it’s “proud” to partner with the VIWMA to identify internship and career opportunities within the Authority for its students. In addition to the development of networking and ICT skills, the I.T. Academy courses reinforce 21st century career skills such as problem-solving, communication and teamwork. This collaborative public-private partnership sets the foundation for other local businesses to develop the footprint for the training of young Virgin Islanders to meet the needs of the local workforce.
