ST. THOMAS — Dwayne Fahie, 26, pleaded guilty in District Court here on Friday to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after attempting to evade police, United States Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe announced via press release. Sentencing is scheduled for December 18, 2015.
According to the plea agreement filed with the court, on April 24, 2015, Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Officers conducted a traffic stop for illegal tint on a vehicle in which Fahie was the passenger. After observing furtive movements, Fahie was directed out of the car and fled the scene. After running from VIPD officers Fahie fell, exposing the handle of a firearm. VIPD officers recovered the firearm.
Fahie was a convicted felon and not authorized to possess a firearm. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
This case is the result of a joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the VIPD. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
