DLCA Informs Public Of Oscar Mayer Turkey Recall

Community Center / Health / News / Virgin Islands / August 30, 2015

The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs announced in a recent press release the recall of over 2 million pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon, produced between May 31, 2015, and August 6, 2015, due to “spoilage-related consumer complaints,” by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

In other words, DLCA says, “the turkey bacon may have spoiled before its “Best When Used By” date and may make consumers susceptible to foodborne illness.”

USDA determined this case as a Class II recall, defined as “a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.”

The USDA urges consumers to avoid consuming the following products:

  • Oscar Mayer “Selects Uncured Turkey Bacon” (UPC 0 4470007633 0) with
“Best When Used By” dates of Aug. 24, 2015, through Oct. 26, 2015.
  • Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon “Smoked Cured Turkey Chopped and Formed”
(UPC 0 7187154874 8) with “Best When Used By” dates of Aug. 28, 2015,
    through Oct. 20, 2015.
  • Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon “Smoked Cured Turkey Chopped and Formed”
    (UPC 0 7187154879 3) with “Best When Used By1” dates of Sept. 3, 2015,
    through Oct. 30, 2015.

The products subject to recall bear the establishment number “P-9070” inside the USDA mark of inspection, as well as the line number “RS19”. These items were shipped  nationwide and exported to the Bahamas and St. Martin. If any consumer in the Virgin Islands has purchased any of the identified items, do not consume them.

Although Oscar Mayer has yet to make announcements regarding refunds, customers with any concerns or questions about the recall can reach Kraft Heinz Consumer Relations Center at (800) 278-3403. Consumers in the Virgin Islands should make contact with the retailer where such product(s) were purchased from with respect to refunds.

For further information, contact the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs at 713.3522 on St. Croix and 714.3522 on St. Thomas/St. John.
