Tortola Man Dies After Vehicle Plunges Into Sea

TORTOLA — A man identified at JR Williams died here this evening following an accident on the Western Side of the island.

According to an eyewitness report, the vehicle was coming from the West End area when the driver, negotiating a steep turn, appeared to have lost control sending the vehicle into the sea.

The vehicle was traversing the West End Road near Cox Heath. A female eyewitness said she was the first to arrive at the scene but was unable to do anything other than call the fire, police and ambulance departments.  She said it was a police officer who was passing shortly after that stopped and pulled the man out of the submerged vehicle.

EMT arrived shortly after and continued efforts to resuscitate him but was unsuccessful.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
