CFVI Announces Availability Of 2015 Anderson Teacher Grant Applications

The Anderson Family Fund at the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands has an opportunity for teacher grants in the 2015 school year, announced CFVI’s president, Dee Baecher-Brown via press release on Friday.

Anderson Teacher Grants are open to professionals in the VI public school systems.

Grants of $5,000 are available for teachers and/or administrators who submit a collaborative school-based proposal that is inclusive and creative. Librarians, assistant teachers and guidance counselors in the public school system of the US Virgin Islands are also eligible to apply for traditional Anderson Teacher Grants that range from $250 to $1,000, to implement an innovative project in their classroom and/or school.

Funding of the Anderson Family Teacher Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis for projects that seek to improve student achievement. Priority will be given to proposals where students are directly involved in the project, the project description is clear and well organized, creative strategies and activities are used to improve student learning, outcomes are measurable and substantive, and a budget that is realistic.

Applications for the 2015 Teacher Grants are available now and must be submitted to CFVI no later than Midnight, Friday, October 23rd, 2015. Applications can be submitted through an online portal located at cfvi.fluidreview.com.

Successful applicants must agree to submit a brief written report, receipts for expenditures and, if possible, visual documentation, on the use of the grant at the end of the funding period. Any applicant who was a recipient of a 2014 Anderson Teachers Grant must have submitted a written final report on the use of the 2014 grant in order to be eligible for a grant in 2015.

The Anderson Family Fund for Education was established at CFVI in 2002 to help improve public education for children in the USVI. The programs are funded by the family of the late John E. Anderson, Sr. in Los Angeles, California, and Topa Properties, Ltd. To date, the fund has distributed more than $270,000 to public school teachers throughout the territory.
