Election Reform Discussions Continue Today On St. Croix

News / Virgin Islands / September 14, 2015

ST. CROIX — Senator Kenneth L. Gittens, chairman of the Legislature’s Committee on Rules and Judiciary, said the committee is preparing to host another working session in the series of Election Reform round table discussions, according to a press release Gittens’ office issued last week.

The meeting will include participation from senators or their representatives, Elections Systems Officials and members of the Joint Boards of Elections.

“We are moving back to St. Croix with this month’s meeting and we will continue to methodically go through Title 18 of the Virgin Islands Code to identify issues and concerns including ambiguity and contradictions that have led to the negative impact on our election process. I look forward to another productive working session, one that will result in comprehensive election reform beneficial to the voting populace,” Senator Gittens said.

According to the second-term senator, the meeting will take place 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 14th , 2015 at the Virgin Islands Port Authority Conference Room at Henry E. Rholsen Airport here.

Gittens added that the committee and the Elections System has continued to receive input from the community on the changes being made as the process continues. He said as with all the other working sessions, the public is invited to view the process but will not be a part of the decision making at this time.

Anyone with comments or concerns can contact Fiona Stokes at [email protected] or Janella James [email protected] in the Office of Senator Gittens.
