TORTOLA — LIAT has suspended one of its workers at the Terrence B Lettsome Airport BVI, pending the outcome of an investigation into an alleged fight with a visitor.

The management of the regional airline has launched the investigation into an accident involving one of the company’s employees and a customer at the airport last Friday September 18th.

Reports a female visitor, went to the airport around 8:30pm to catch a LIAT Flight to Puerto Rico then an onward flight to the United States, and after waiting for about two hours, inquired from the LIAT agent of the problem, only to be to told that the flight, had already left.

An argument is said to have developed between both women and the visitor allegedly tried to record it on her cell phone but the LIAT agent allegedly grabbed the phone from a visitor and a fight ensued. Reports say the visitor received injuries to her body from the fight and was taken to Peebles Hospital, treated and discharged.

LIAT said in a statement Tuesday that it launched an investigation the following day, immediately upon receipt of information about the incident and the employee in question has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

LIAT says it is committed to clearly, openly and completely establishing all of the facts surrounding the incident and to a fair resolution of the matter.
