TORTOLA — Newly crowned Miss World BVI, Sasha Wintz has dedicated her win to the differently-abled (disabled) children in the community.
Wintz, 18, who is born to Guyanese parents, was crowned Miss World BVI 2015 Sunday evening, October 3.
She is known for her stunning performance at BET Music Matters last year and her ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ project will be focused on persons with special needs.
During her introduction, the teenager shared her personal experience, having an 8 year-old nephew who has Down Syndrome. Her nephew, Jaquan Wintz also shared the stage with Wintz after her win.
“It feels so amazing. It’s a great pleasure and honor to be an ambassador of the BVI and also to be a proud representative…I had faith in myself that I would win, or place, but you always trust God and believe in yourself that you can do anything,” she told reporters after being crowned.
Wintz said the most nerve-racking part of the pageant was the swimwear segment, “because that is not really something I would do, just walk out like that in swimwear, but even though I didn’t get the swimwear, I did my best and tried my best.”
Wintz captured evening wear, most poised and miss photogenic, and will be representing the BVI at Miss World in China in December.
First runner-up was former Miss Fifth Form, Yadali Thomas -Santos, contestant, who got the judges nod, although not winning any individual awards.
Mindy Paul won awards for people’s choice, best intellect and miss congeniality.
Bryana Nycol Robles-Dixon, won best introduction [beauty with a purpose], best interview, swimwear and best talent.
The contestants participated in six categories – Beauty with a Purpose [introduction], Interview, Swimwear, Talent, Evening Wear and the Question and Answer.
