St. Croix Abattoir Reopens For Slaughtering

ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture announced via press release on Friday that the abattoir here will reopen on Monday, October 19 for regular slaughtering activities.

Operations will resume on Mondays and Tuesdays, according to the release, as the downed boiler that caused the a abattoir’s closure two weeks ago has been repaired.

“The VIDOA has already contacted our regular livestock farmers that uses the Abattoir and informed them that slaughtering will resume as usual on normal slaughter Days,” DOA Commissioner Designee Carlos Robles said. “We thank our clients for their understanding during our closure and look forward to serving them again.”
