ST. CROIX — The peace rally that Senator Terrence “Positive” Nelson scheduled for Sat. November 7, was postponed to Sunday, Nov. 15, after heavy showers soiled the grounds at the Agricultural Fair complex, according to Nykole Tyson, who works with Mr. Nelson. Above, Mada Nile, an artist set to perform at the event, sings “Give A Little”.
The senator continued with plans for the event into Saturday afternoon, but called it off just before 1:00 p.m. after it became evident that the rain would not subside in time to put on the rally.
Mr. Nelson has been working on the peace effort for several months, prompted by the rise of gun violence that has already taken the lives of over 36 people this year. He recently canvassed 12 housing communities here spreading a message of hope; titled “Give Peace A Chance”, where, according to a recently issued press release, Mr. Nelson spoke about conflict resolution while highlighting his personal experiences.
And last Thursday, the longtime senator issued a press release requesting donations be made to the peace effort, again pinpointing the events held already and upcoming initiatives that Mr. Nelson believes will help put a dent in violent crime here. The release did not, however, explain how the funds would be used.
The upcoming peace concert and rally will feature more than 10 recording artists according to the occasion’s flyer, including Ras Batch, Mada Nile, Pumpa & the Crew, among other local acts.
