ST. THOMAS — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Operations Officers in the territory received notification by the Virgin Islands Police Department of an individual with an outstanding warrant from the Virgin Islands Superior Court that they believed would attempt to depart the territory, a press release CBP issued today has revealed.
According to the release, CBP officers at the Cyril E. King Airport were on alert and were able to identify Edward McKenzie, 58, during pre-departure inspections, attempting to board a flight bound to Miami, Florida. Mr. McKenzie, a citizen of the United State and resident of Miami, was arrested by CBP after confirming his identity and the validity of the warrant on conspiracy and fraud charges. The Virgin Islands Police Department took custody of the subject for further processing.
“U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers cooperate with multiple law enforcement authorities to identify fugitives at our ports of entry and return them to face justice for crimes they may have committed,” stated St. Thomas Area Port Director, Louis Harrigan. “Cooperation between law enforcement components is essential in maintaining our nation’s security”.
CBP officers detect many individuals wanted by authorities in the continental U.S., upon their arrival to the USVI, or upon their return to the mainland from the USVI, the release stated.
