ST. THOMAS — A man was found dead at sea around 11:51 p.m. on Sunday, VIPD Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced this afternoon.
According to Ms. Freeman, citing a preliminary police report, officers were dispatched to Veteran’s Drive after they received notification from Central Dispatch that an unresponsive male, found in the ocean, was being transported by vessel.
The victim, identified as 49-year-old Barry Theil of Ohio, was taken to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital for treatment, but he never regained consciousness; after suffering severe cardiac arrest, according to the release. He was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m.
The victim’s family has been notified of the incident, according to the release.
