ST. CROIX — Virgin Islands Police Commissioner Delroy Richards Sr. said via press release this afternoon that he was pleased to announce that Dennis Vanterpool III is the U.S. Virgin Islands recipient of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police / Motorola Solutions 2015 Scholarship. Mr. Vanterpool, a student attending the Savannah College of Arts and Design in Lacoste, Georgia, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in game development.

He is the son of Lieutenant Dennis Vanterpool, commander of the Special Operations Bureau (SOB), and a 25-year veteran of the VIPD. As commander of SOB he oversees the department’s Canine Special Response Team and Marine units.

The ACCP-Motorola Solutions Foundation Scholarship Program is focused on providing resources for students to continue their college or university studies. The program makes it possible for students who would otherwise not have the necessary resources to pursue an education.

Children of current police officers and police support staff are able to use the scholarship to continue their education in engineering, communications, marketing, finance, industrial engineering, human resource management, criminology, forensic science and other disciplines.

The ACCP and Motorola Solutions Foundation have worked together to promote public safety in the 24 countries, as well as support youth and community development programs.

KEY FACTS:

  • The ACCP and the Motorola Solutions Foundation have worked together to assist police departments in each of the 24-member countries to support youth and community development programs.
  • The winners will be able to continue their education at certified colleges or universities, either within the Caribbean region or at colleges or universities that are associated with the member countries in the Caribbean such as the United Kingdom, Canada or the United States.
  • The program has granted a total of 65 scholarships since its inception eight years ago.
  • The staff of the ACCP reviews all applications for scholarships and makes decisions on which students receive support.
  • Scholarships awarded are in the amount of $3,000.00 (USD)
