ST. THOMAS — A woman succumbed to wounds she sustained after falling some 40 feet from a hotel room here, VIPD Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman announced this afternoon.
According to Ms. Freeman, officers received notification on Monday from the 911 emergency call center concerning a woman being treated at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, who had experienced a traumatic fall from her hotel room.
Ms. Freeman said responding officers made contact with the victim’s husband, who stated that he and his wife were in their rented unit at the Point Pleasant Resort; and he was watching television in the living room while she was in the unit’s bedroom.
The husband said he then heard a noise emanating from the bedroom area, which prompted him to inquiry as to what was taking place. While attempting to check on his wife, the husband said he noticed that the bathroom door was locked. He then proceeded to call his wife’s name, however he received no response, and made a decision to force his way through the door.
The husband was too late, however, telling police that his wife had already fallen 40 feet to the ground. The widower said he immediately phoned 911 for help. The wife died on Tuesday at 12:23 a.m.
Ms. Freeman said the incident is under investigation by detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
