Senator Francis To Hold Committee Meeting To Discuss Results Of VIPD Assessment

News / Virgin Islands / January 13, 2016

ST. CROIX — Senator Novelle Francis, Jr. will convene a meeting of the Committee on Homeland Security, Public Safety and Justice on Thursday to discuss the results of an assessment conducted of the Virgin Islands Police Department by T&M Protection Resources, a press release issued by Mr. Francis’ office on Tuesday confirms.

In March of last year, the Public Finance Authority, chaired by Governor Kenneth Mapp, authorized a contract of up to $300,000 with T&M Protection Resources, LLC to conduct a full assessment of the VIPD.

According to the release, the meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m at the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall on St. Thomas. It will include testimony from from T&M representatives and the VIPD, who will discuss the findings of  the assessment.

“This meeting is an opportunity for my colleagues and the public to hear about the assessment, as well as the VIPD’s plans to implement solutions in ways that address industry best practices and national initiatives,” Mr. Francis said.  “The report offers recommendations for operational procedures and strategies which would support the Department’s objective to operate at maximum efficiency and meet their mandate to protect and serve the people of the Virgin Islands.”

The first-term Democrat expects a lively discussion, according to the release, which was commissioned by the governor. He invited the community to attend the meeting, listen online or view it live on Legit TV.
