Lighthouse Mission Announces 4th Annual Charity Event And Auction

News / Virgin Islands / January 28, 2016

ST. CROIX — Lighthouse Mission is inviting the community to what it calls “Hearts for the Homeless – Care for the Kids” at The Palms at Pelican Cove on Tuesday, February 9, from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

According to a release issued on Wednesday, the special affair will raise critical capital to support programs, education and compassion for the homeless and needy, as well as their children and families in Christiansted.

The event features a stir fry station, taste-size desserts presented by a variety of local restaurants, and a coffee bar, compliments of Twin City Coffee House. Live music will be provided by Paul and Jeannie Knipler, and residents will have the opportunity to shop for jewelry, art, hotel and excursion packages, or certificates for services that range from practical to pleasure. Preview of auction items can be seen on the Lighthouse’s Facebook platform, according to the release.

The Lighthouse Mission is a faith-based community service center whose mission is to “Shine the Light of Jesus into Christiansted,” according to the release. Its after-school program provides supervised outdoor recreation ,snacks, homework assistance, practical arts and character development, while building relationships with the entire family.

The nonprofit organization also serves meals to the homeless, providing clothing, toiletries, showers and laundry facilities. And it promotes communication, relationships and referrals that lead to personal growth and life-changing decisions, the release further stated.

“I could never repay for feeding me when I couldn’t feed myself, or cloth(ing) me when I had no clothes, and for taking the time to find me on the streets that morning (Oct. 31st 2008) to tell me I would be sleeping in PR that night! God bless you, God bless you! I think you know now that I have been sober ever since that day,” a man that was served several years ago told Lighthouse Mission recently. “I am so grateful and God has blessed me with a brand new and most wonderful life.”

Tickets are $30.00 and can be purchased at Undercover Books in Gallows Bay or The Palms at Pelican Cove. E-mail [email protected] or call Debbie at 340-773-3551 for more information.
