St. Thomas Carnival Committee Unveils 2016 Queen And Princess Contestants

ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Carnival Committee (St. Thomas Carnival Committee), which organizes carnival events here, presented the 2016 queen and princess contestants at a private ceremony at Government House on the evening of Saturday, January 30, according to a press release issued on Sunday. Included in this ceremony were two judged segments for the queen contestants, introductory speech and promotional campaign. The young ladies also selected their numbers.

The five princess contestants are:

#1 – D’Naeja Todman – 12yrs – Ulla F. Muller Elementary School
#2 – K’ylese Gumbs – 9yrs – Calvary Christian Academy
#3 – Paris Chin – 11yrs – Yvonne Milliner-Bowsky Elementary
#4 – Laila Evelyn –9yrs – All Saints Cathedral School
#5 – Sainyah Jackson – 10yrs – Gladys A. Abraham Elementary School

The three queen contestants are:

#1 – Bianca Phillips – 17yrs – Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School
#2 – Ceara Roberts – 17yrs – Charlotte Amalie High School
#3 – Kamarsha Potter – 17yrs – Charlotte Amalie High School

The princess contestants were the first to introduce themselves, giving the audience a hint of what to expect on the night of the princess selection show. The queen contestants followed with their first judged segment, the 60 seconds introductory speech and they all spoke eloquently, according to the release.

Following a selection by the reigning Virgin Islands Talented Teen, Akira “Majestic Fire” Pickering-Haynes, contestants presented their 90 seconds promotional campaigns. Ms. Phillips promoted the carnival horse races, Ms. Roberts emphasized her appreciation for carnival music and Ms. Potter displayed her love for the steelband, according to the release.

The release concluded by stating that both shows would be fiercely contested.

The princess selection show will take place on April 10, 2016 at 5:00 p.m., and the queens selection will be held on April 16, 2016 at 8:00 p.m., both at the Lionel Roberts Stadium.
