ST. CROIX — All beaches in the territory tested by the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (D P.N.R.) this week are safe for swimming and fishing, according to a press release the department issued on Friday. Above, Sapphire Beach in St. Thomas.
D.P.N.R. said it tested 33 beaches. On St. Croix, they include the following: Stoney Ground, Protestant Cay, Buccaneer, Cramer Park, New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta), Dorsch, Frederiksted Public Beach, Pelican Cove (Comorant), Shoy’s, Rainbow, Cane Bay, Chenay Bay, Princess (Condo Row), A – Mill Harbour, Halfpenny, Princess (Condo Row), B – Breezez and Grapetree Bay.
St. Thomas safe beaches include Lindquist, Coki Point, Vessup Bay, Brewer’s Bay, Bluebeards, Secret Harbor, Bolongo Bay, Sapphire, Water Bay, Frenchman’s Bay, Hull Bay, Lindbergh Bay and Magen’s Bay.
And on St. John, D.P.N.R. said Oppenhiemer, Johnson Bay, Frank Bay, Cruz Bay and Great Cruz Bay are safe.
The department said it would continue to monitor these popular swimming areas, and it recommended that residents use their own discretion when swimming or fishing at the designated beaches. If the waters appear muddy or murky or have foul odors, do not swim or fish, the release added.
