Auto Accidents On St. Croix Leave Three Injured

ST. CROIX — The Virgin Islands Police Department on Tuesday reported three auto accidents, one caused by someone driving under the influence of alcohol and the other by a woman who lost control of her vehicle, according to Sakeeda Freeman, the force’s media specialist.

According to Ms. Freeman, on Sunday at roughly 8:21 p.m., the 911 emergency call center received a report of an automobile accident that took place on East End Road, in the vicinity of Premier Wines and Spirits.

The operator of a Honda vehicle was headed east on East End Road, when the operator of a Nissan Altima traveling west entered the eastbound lane colliding into the Honda. The operator of the Honda was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center via ambulance for injuries sustained during the collision.

Saskia Corke, the driver of the Nissan Altima was uninjured. She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, according to police.

In a separate incident, which occurred on Monday at 8:27 a.m., the 911 emergency call center received notification of a single vehicular accident that had taken place on the Melvin H. Evans Highway, in the vicinity of Estate Good Hope.

According to the preliminary investigation report, the operator of a Kia Sorrento was traveling west on the Melvin H. Evans Highway when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle flipped, causing the driver and her daughter to be ejected from the vehicle onto the highway.

The two were transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for injuries sustained in the accident. The extent of their injuries was unknown at time of writing, and the incident is under active investigation by the Traffic Investigation Bureau, according to Ms. Freeman.
