ST. THOMAS — Governor Kenneth Mapp, by proclamation, has granted administrative leave for government employees to enable their participation in major Virgin Islands Carnival events this week, a press release Government House issued this afternoon has revealed.
For employees in the St. Thomas-St. John district, leave is granted on Wednesday, April 27, from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., which is Food, Arts and Craft Fair Day, and on Thursday, April 28, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for J’ouvert.
Administrative leave is granted territory-wide on Friday, April 29, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for the Children’s Parade.
The governor’s authorization of leave for non-essential employees is intended to encourage greater participation in the Virgin Islands Carnival celebration, which provides an economic boost and helps to promote a greater appreciation of carnival and local culture, according to the release.
