ST. THOMAS — Three males were shot early Sunday morning during the final hours of Carnival Village events in St. Thomas, leaving one victim dead and two others injured — including a 13-year-old boy — according to V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman.
A Consortium reporter covering Carnival Village events witnessed a crowd of people quickly scattering to the left and right sides of the open area, a sign something had gone wrong.
The deceased, who was identified as 25-year-old Sehdale Gabriel, sustained multiple gunshot wounds while exiting a restroom behind of Village booths number 33 and 1. Of the two other victims, the minor sustained a gunshot to his left arm, while the other victim, who the V.I.P.D. had yet to identify, sustained multiple gunshots about his body and is currently receiving treatment at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital.
The incident occurred at about 2:37 a.m. on Sunday, and Mr. Gabriel succumbed to his injuries at 4:45 a.m., according to Ms. Freeman. She added that the crime scene was processed thoroughly by the V.I.P.D.’s Forensic Unit.
The incident is under investigation by the Homicide Task Force, according to Ms. Freeman, and the VI.P.D. is asking anyone with information about the occurrence to contact contact the Task Force at (340) 774-2211 extensions 5617 and 5554. They can also call 911, Crime Stoppers VI, the Commissioner’s Office at (340)715-5506 and the Chief’s Office at (340)715-5548.
