Dancing Classroom VI And Spectrum Band Headline W.I.C.O.’s May Concert

Entertainment / Virgin Islands / May 8, 2016

ST. THOMAS — For anyone who wants to extend the Carnival experience just a little longer, the West Indian Company, Ltd. will host Carnival on the Dock from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17th on the West Indian Company dock, according to a W.I.C.O. press release.

Spectrum Band, above, will be the main act. This will be the six-time road march champion’s third feature performance on the WICO stage. They performed in June 2015 and at WICO’s centennial celebration in December 2012.

A special intermission performance by Dancing Classrooms Virgin Islands, Inc. will be a part of the evening’s entertainment. Founded in 2009 with students from only three fifth grade classes on St. John, the program now has a territory-wide presence in at least 11 schools and 31 classrooms.

“WICO’s commitment to showcasing young people in the performing arts includes dance,” said Joseph B. Boschulte, WICO President and CEO. “With the popularity of dancing and the program’s commitment to teaching life skills along with an appreciation for the beauty of dance, we are pleased to welcome Dancing Classrooms Virgin Islands, Inc. back for a second turn in the spotlight.”

DCVI is affiliated with a global network that includes Canada, Switzerland, Israel and Jordan. The program uses the vocabulary of dance to cultivate the positive feelings that are inherent in every child in addition to fostering skills such as confidence, respect, communication and teamwork.

The Norwegian Escape will be in port from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., while the Carnival Glory will be in port from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The Carnival Magic will arrive at 11:00 a.m. and depart at 7:00 p.m.
