ST. CROIX — Home Depot received a bomb threat this morning, the second time in 7 months. Last year, Home Deport shoppers and employees were evacuated by V.I.P.D. officers during the afternoon of September 11, as they investigated the threat — which turned out, like today’s threat, to be a hoax.
According to a press release issued by Glen Dratte, the force’s new public information officer, at approximately 7:44 a.m. today, officers were dispatched to the store, located off the Melvin Evans Highway in the Island Crossing Shopping Center, in regards to the threat.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a cashier received a call at 7:27 a.m. from someone stating that the Home Depot Store would “blow up” in 5 minutes. Customers and employees were then removed from the store and placed at the Island Crossing Shopping Center’s east entrance, as specialized K9 Units and other officers inspected the entire premises, including vehicles.
The V.I.P.D. declared the store secure for operations at 9:41 a.m.
