ST. CROIX — John Canegata and his chosen group of delegates fought to the bitter end to replace the voter-chosen Republican caucus delegates — to include newcomers John Yob, who won 131 votes, his wife, Erica Yob, gaining 123 votes, among others.
There were many court battles, and earlier this week, a Supreme Court ruling reversed a Superior Court decision that blocked Valerie Stiles’ from being given the opportunity to prove that John Yob provided a false affidavit in connection with his voter registration application.
But in an email message to The Consortium on Friday, Mr. Yob confirmed that Mr. Canegata and his gang of delegates withdrew their challenge against the legitimacy of Mr. Yob and the other original delegates while in Cleveland.
“The credentials committee approved the report and submitted us to the convention roll of delegates. Our delegates were seated,” Mr. Yob wrote. Asked why his challengers had decided to withdraw, he said, “They withdrew their challenge after they realized they had no chance of winning because they were wrong; we had already won at Contests Committee, won a unanimous vote at the Republican National Committee, and would soon win on the Credentials Committee.”
Mr. Yob added: “This has been a long road but it is critically important to stand up to corruption when people attempt to abuse their power. I could not be more pleased with the result that includes both being seated as delegates and mandating new elections for party leadership with RNC oversight within 90 days.”
Mr. Canegata — quick to issue press releases on every development involving their fight to unseat the original delegates — has been mum on the matter. His last press release included a document confirming his group’s appeal of Mr. Yob and the other delegates’ legitimacy to the Credentials Committee, and earlier a picture that he and his gang took with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.
Since then, nothing.
