D.P.N.R. To Host Workshops On Environmental Compliance For Dry Cleaners And Laundromats

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / July 20, 2016

ST. THOMAS — Department of Planning and Natural Resources Commissioner Dawn Henry announced via press release today that small businesses territory-wide would have an opportunity to learn more about best management practices and environmental compliance through workshops D.P.N.R.’s Division of Environmental Protection is set to host.

Two workshops will be held to educate dry cleaners and laundromat business owners and managers on best management practices and environmental compliance assistance of the federal and local regulatory laws that govern their industry, according to the release. These workshops are being sponsored by the VI Small Business Environmental Assistance Program, Division of Environmental Protection in D.P.N.R., in collaboration with the VI Small Business Development Center (hosted by the University of the Virgin Islands). The partnership program is an initiative of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The St. Croix workshop will be held on Monday at VI SBDC Training Facility, at 4100 Sion Farm Shopping Center, Suite 16 next to Centerline Bakery. The St. Thomas/ St. John workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 24 at the VI SBDC Training Facility located at Nisky Center, 2nd floor, Suite 720. Both workshops are from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and there is no fee for your attendance.

The dry cleaners and laundromats workshops will give a general overview of regulations, best management practices, pollution prevention, and safety techniques. Using these performance base approach techniques will also help make the work environment safer for all employees, promote better community relations, and protect the environment.

“I strongly encourage small businesses that are concerned about compliance rules to come out and get pertinent information at these workshops,” urge Ms. Henry. “Compliance is always cheaper than enforcement”

For more information on the VI Small Business Environmental Assistance Program workshops and about the program, contact Jasmine Blyden, territorial program coordinator at 774-3320 on St. Thomas.
