Royal Caribbean Cancels Two Calls To Crown Bay Due To Inclement Weather

Community Center / News / Virgin Islands / August 22, 2016

ST. THOMAS — Royal Caribbean has canceled two visits to the Austin “Babe” Monsanto Marine Terminal in Crown Bay, St. Thomas due to approaching inclement weather conditions, Virgin Islands Port Authority Executive Director Carlton Dowe announced this afternoon.

The MS Oasis of the Seas was scheduled to visit Crown Bay on Aug. 23 and the MS Freedom of the Seas was scheduled for Aug. 24. Both visits have been canceled in light of a tropical disturbance in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, Invest 99-L, which may develop into a tropical depression or storm in the days ahead, according to Mr. Dowe.

Although the visit was cancelled for safety reasons, Mr. Dowe extended his apologies to the merchants and tourist related businesses that will be affected as a result of the cancellation.

The Oasis of the Seas can carry up to 6,296 passengers and 2,394 crew, and the Freedom of the Seas carries a maximum of 4,515 passengers and 1,360 crew, according to the Port Authority.
