Benefit Concert Being Held Today For Local Who Successful Underwent Liver Transplant

Community Center / Virgin Islands / September 2, 2016

ST. CROIX — The relentless efforts of the family and friends of Tamara Avila Navarro — a local who recently underwent liver transplant at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami — has led to yet another fundraising event to help their loved one through the healing process.

The love and support for Mrs. Navarro has been evident all over this island, and certainly on social media, where supporters have changed their profile pictures to that of the patient, in a show of solidarity and hope that she eventually recovers.

Their latest action — a benefit concert happening today — is to help pay for the medical costs associated with the transplant.

“The medical bills are mounting tremendously especially with her prolonged stay and recovery,” Jennifer Avila, sister of Mrs. Navarro, told this publication two days ago. “Numerous local artists have graciously donated their time to come out and perform with hopes of support from the community.”

The organizers of the concert have partnered with Donate Life and LifeLink in Puerto Rico and have designated an area where attendants could signup as organ donors.

The benefit concert will be held at the Drive Inn in Estate Plessen near Estate Grove Place. It starts at 8:00 p.m. and runs until the last performance. Entertainers include Batch, Mada Nile, Maria Carmona, Yako, Sincere, Cherise King, Nadia, Dundi and Esquillin, Empress Ima, Davina, Empress Omo, Splijah, Jahroni, Nyingo, Mex, Digital Band and Music in Motion. It will be MC’d by Daren “Bogle” Stevens.
