Today’s a big day for tech news, with Apple announcing its latest iPhones, dubbed iPhone 7 and iPhone 7Plus, while Sony revealed its updated PlayStation console, which the company stressed was a this-generation system catered to gamers in search for 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR) gaming.
Key points of iPhone 7
It comes with a better camera, more vibrant colors and better zoom capabilities. The larger iPhone 7Plus has a dual-lens system that creates beautiful portraits and background blur.
The new phone has no headphone jack — as was rumored by multiple tech sources. Instead, Apple introduced new sets of wireless earphones, including one dubbed “AirPods” for $159.
Apple executive Phil Schiller said the company felt it needed to move on: “We believe in our wireless future,” he said.
The phone is now water resistant, but that feature — perfected by Sony and Samsung — is hardly new.
It also comes in new color schemes, including a shiny “jet black”, although that color is only available in the higher capacity sizes.
The 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus starts at $769 for 32 gigabytes of storage. Apple will charge $869 for 128 gigabytes, and $969 for 256 gigabytes.
The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 starts at $649 for 32 gigabytes, up to $849 for 256 gigabytes. Preorders will begin this Friday, Sept. 9, and the product begins shipping a week later on Sept. 16.
The jet black finish for both the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus come in only 128 GB and 256 GB capacities.
Key points of PS4 Pro
The updated console, to be released November 10, will cost $399.
Sony says the PS4 Pro has “more than doubled” the GPU power of the standard PS4, and that it uses AMD’s Polaris architecture. The clock-rate of the CPU has also been boosted.
The PS4 Pro will have a 1TB hard-drive.
All PS4 games on compatible with PS4 Pro.
