The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) announced on Friday that the Beach Water Quality Monitoring Program did not conduct its weekly beach monitoring for the week of September 5-9. Therefore the agency said it could not assess water quality of the territory’s beaches this week.
D.P.N.R. did not give a reason relative to why the beaches weren’t tested. It recommended that residents should use their own discretion when swimming or fishing at the designated beaches.
If the waters appear muddy or murky or have foul odors, do not swim or fish, D.P.N.R. says. For additional information regarding water quality call the Division of Environmental Protection at 773-1082 in St. Croix.
