ST. CROIX — December is a jubilant month in the U.S. Virgin Islands, especially St. Croix, which is when the island’s festivities come to a head. This year the Carnival Village — which sees residents descending on Frederiksted for 10 days of music entertainment — starts on December 29, according to Crucian Christmas Festival President Davidson Charlemagne.
While last year’s Carnival Village was impressive, Mr. Charlemagne is promising a show unlike any other this year, with major Caribbean Soca and Reggae artists performing some of their greatest hits at the Village.
Fusion Band, Kylo and the Stylee Band and Burning Flames are the headliners for the opening night, according to Mr. Charlemagne. Others to perform during the 10 days of festivities include Shurwayne Winchester out of Trinidad, Triple Kay out of Dominica, Olatunji out of Trinidad, and other major acts.
As for the the parades, January 6 will see St. Croix’s youngsters overtaking the streets of Frederiksted for the Children’s Parade, while the Adults Parade will command the town on January 7 (the Village closes on January 7 as well).
J’ouvert Morning starts at 5:00 a.m. on January 4, according to Mr. Charlemagne, followed by the food fair the same day at 12:30 p.m.
The Consortium will publish more dates and events as they become available.
