ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Police Department along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigations, U.S. Border and Customs agents and others conducted several initiatives in a few housing communities this past weekend, under a new mission dubbed Operation December Rein.
That’s according to V.I.P.D. Media Specialist Sakeeda Freeman, who made known via press release on Tuesday that the initiatives had resulted in some arrests, “but most importantly the teams were able to reach out to the members of the community.”
The effort is also aimed at cultivating trust within the community, according to Ms. Freeman, with law enforcement officers explaining to residents that they will not sit back and allow crime to happen.
On December 10, agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (A.T.F.) arrested Tolomah Foy, 23, in the Red Hook area of St. Thomas after agents made several purchases of crack cocaine from Mr. Foy. He faces a minimum of five years in prison.
Ms. Freeman said Operation December Reign was the first of a number of incoming initiatives aimed at protecting residents and fostering community involvement. During the operation, officers distributed cards with contact information so that residents can reach out to the agencies involved in the operation with information.
“As we continue to ask for the communities help in reporting crimes and calling in with information that will aid us in solving crimes, we would like to say thank you as we look forward to continue to build a stronger relationship with our community,” said the V.I.P.D.
